Match Report- Preliminary Final vs Warrandyte at Greythorn

                     1Q         2Q         3Q          Final

Fitzroy             1.1         1.3        3.5         3.5.23

Warrandyte        2.2         4.2        5.4         5.7.37

Preliminary Final day !! This week the U-10 Blues were up against Warrandyte, a team who had narrowly beaten us the last time we played.

In muddy but fine conditions, the match kicked off at a great pace with Warrandyte taking the early lead, but our boys held much of the play to trail by 7 points at quarter time.

The second quarter saw the boys fighting hard with great running, ball gathering and tackling to once again have as much of the ball as the opposition, but unable to put it on the scoreboard.  There were some great marks taken given the conditions.

Warrandyte kicked the first goal of the third to stretch their lead to 4 goals beofre the boys throughtheir usual determination and fighting spirit, dominated the rest of the quarter, with the ball being in our forward half for most of the quarter, to be within 2 goals at 3/4 time.

The last quarter was tight with great desperate play by both teams which pervented scoring.  The boys had the ball in the forward line for a good part of the quarter, but were unable to put the score on the board, the margin 14 points at the final siren.

Bad luck team, another spirited effort that made everyone watching proud of you all.

Unfortunately this is the last update for the season.  I was hoping to get the opportunity to get one more week in, but that's not to be.

Congratulations to all the team on a great season that saw the team go from losing their first 5 matches, up to third
on the ladder.  Well done.  A great improvement as a team, and testiment to your team spirit.  You made everyone connected with the team proud of every aspect of the way you went about it this year.

Special thanks to Graham & Jeff for coaching the team in such a wonderful way.  Getting great improvement & competitiveness from the team while keeping it fun for all.  Thanks again, we couldn't have asked for any more from our coaches.

Many thanks to all the various umpires, helpers and supporters throughout the year.  Your efforts and positive attitudes helped to make the season a great success.  I'm sure like me, you're all so glad to be involved with such a great group of people.  Thanks again.

On a final note, looking forward to next year, & hope to see you all at the club again.

Match Report- 1st Semi Final vs Kew Rovers at Greythorn

                         1Q         2Q       3Q          Final

Fitzroy             1.3         1.6        1.9        2.16.28

Kew Rovers        0.3        0.5        2.6         3.6.24

Finals time !! This week the U-10 Blues were up against Kew Rovers for the second
week in a row, this time in the first Semi-Final in sunny but cold & wet ground
conditions at Greythorn Reserve.

In the first half, the boys dominated most of the possession in tight and
low scoring game saw them hold a 7 point lead at half time.

The third quarter was tight with defensive skills again in the ascendancy,
with both sides putting in some great efforts to win the ball.  Kew scored 2
goals to nil against the flow of the game, to lead us by 3 points at 3
quarter time.

The last quarter was gripping with the boys holding the ball in the forward
line for much of the quarter, missing many chances, but  eventually taking the
lead in behinds.  A great goal saw the lead stretched further, but a late goal
from Kew saw the margin back to less than a goal.  The last minutes were tense
with both sides showing great desperation including a great chase down tackle
(one of many for the day) that prevented a likely Kew goal.  The result a very
hard earned 4 point win, and a match next week against Warrandyte.

This was great win by the team that typified their spirit throughout the season, as
shown with the team song being sung with great passion.  Well done team &
good luck for next week.
                 WELL DONE TEAM !!!
