Four Grand Finals, Two Flags and a Party

Grand Final day, 29 August was a great one for FJFC with four sides competing for premiership flags. Congratulations to all four participating teams for excellent seasons.

The day started at Stradbroke Park in Kew with the U10 Golds up against Glen Iris. Despite a valiant effort by the U10s, Glen Iris prevailed on the day to take home the flag.

Next up were the U13 Browns against Park Orchards at Ivanhoe Park. After a tight struggle, a gallant Fitzroy hit the lead in the final quarter, only to be pipped at the post by a late goal to Park Orchards.

Back at Stradbroke Park the U14 Blues were taking on Doncaster. In another tight encounter, the U14s had their noses in front for most of the game, with Doncaster getting to within 1 point half-way into the last quarter. The Roys dug deep though, to finally win the flag by 26 points.

In the last clash of the day at Stradbroke Park, the U12 Browns took on Hawthorn Citizens. With scores level at 2 goals each at quarter time, the U12 Roys knew they had a fight on their hands. However, drawing on the experience of a great season, they kicked away in the second half to win by 46 points.

The day was rounded out with a celebratory gathering and presentation of the Grand Final teams at the Fitzroy Bowling Club, where tall tales and true of the day's events were exchanged by all involved.

Congratulations to Viv Michie who was chosen by Fremantle with their 2nd round draft pick.

Winner of the FJFC James Doughney Club Champion award as an U14 player in 2006, Viv is the second FJFC player to be selected by an AFL Club, following Jasper McMillan-Pittard who joined Port Adelaide in 2009.
