Round 14: Roys beat Park Orchards and secure Top 4

Park Orchids 2.3-15 Fitzroy 5.11-41

Last weekend we had another trip out to the country. This time it was to Park Orchards with their big football ground out in the hills. We played in a big cross wind which made it tough down both ends. The game was fought hard with many tough contests on the ground. Lots of us got pretty muddy but the pig pen prize went to Charlie who got the dirtiest! Gerry was in the coach's box and he must have done alright because we had another win. Our defence stood firm again as our opponents struggled to score against us.

Go Roys!!

Round 13: Brothers in arms

Fitzroy 11.9-75 Fitzroy(4) 2.4-16

Round 12: Roys keep Saints goalless

St Damians 0.2-2 Fitzroy 5.6-36 [photos]

We started off winning and stayed winning. The Roy boys had a great win in cyclonic weather with letting St Damians only get 2 points while we got over 5 goals. Every one had a fantastic win. Everybody stood out to show a strong team that can win the Granny. Great game boys and keep it up for the rest of the year.

Round 11: Big win in wind

Balwyn 2.6-18 Fitzroy 5.3-33

On the 11th of July it was a big game against Fitzroy and Balwyn, it was away for Fitzroy and home for Balwyn.

Tom and I were the captains and so we had to do the coin toss. We picked tails and won. We picked the wind of course so we had the wind in the first quarter.

Now it was time for the game to start and the ball went up from the bounce, Nick got the tap for our team and it got kicked into the forward line and Alec got the ball for our team and kicked a GOAL! It was 1.0.6 to 0.0.0 the ball went up again. The ball again went into the forward line Alec picked it up again and kicked another GOAL! Alec had kicked the second goal for Fitzroy and the scores were 2.0.12 to 0.0.0. Then not long into the quarter Fitzroy got anther goal. Then the siren went for the first quarter the scores were 3.1.18 to Balwyn 0.0.0.

Second quarter, kicking into the wind, we remained tight defensively we kept Balwyn to one goal in the final minute of the quarter, we were scoreless for the quarter.

Half time we got a rev up from Andy and came out fired up and kicked 2 goals and again kept to opposition scoreless. Good quarter by Josh, Alex and Alec.

Final quarter we had to be tight in defence because they had the wind. There were a couple of great efforts in defence to stop goals and they hit the post a couple of times. We held out in the end and it was a good team effort to win. Final scores, 5.3 33 to 2.6 18. Great game by the whole team.

Thanks to Andy, Gerry and all the parents who helped on the day.

Round 10

Fitzroy 6.5-41 Doncaster 1.7-13

Round 9: Clever plan works

Fitzroy 6.9-45 St Marys 3.1-19

It was a great experience to Captain FJFC as this is the first year I've played club football.

I like the idea of sharing the captaincy around and sometimes playing in different positions.

Andy, our coach had a clever plan to drop the wingmen back in the backline and that plan worked well against St. Mary's. We kicked a couple of early goals and they chased us all day. Special mention to Yiannis who kicked 4.1 and Jack who also contributed on the scoreboard. The backline also needs a special mention as we kept St Mary's goal-less until half time.

Round 8

Preston Bullants 5.4-34 Fitzroy 3.3-31

Round 7: Excellent 3 Quarter Game

Fitzroy 2.3-15 Glen Iris 4.3-27 [photos]

When we played Glen Iris I think that we played an excellent 3 quarter game.
Paddy and Marcel were doing a lot of the hard stuff especially getting in and under and first for the ball.
Yianni and Harrison had a few great runs through the midfield; Alex kicked a great snap goal and did a great job tagging number twenty nine.
Zac’s goal was great; I loved how Charlie and James were hard at the ball.
The ruckman Jack, Euan, Wilson and Nick were great at the center bounce.
Tom and Liam were doing massive things along the boundary beating people to the ball then smashing it long.
Jordan and Harry took some damn good marks and Hughey and Leon were great in defense.
Josh, Alec and Louis were doing a great job up forward pushing the ball further towards the goals.
Joe and Angus tough in the midfield.
I played alright.
Next time we will play a better first quarter.
All in all we kept them goalless after the first quarter.
Thanks to Andy and Gerry who coached us well and of course the parents who came along to watch and support us.
Also thanks to Peter for organizing this game.

GO ROOOYSS!!!

Round 6: Convincing win at Warrandyte

Warrandyte 4.0-24 Fitzroy 14.5-89

Hi everyone I’m bringing in one of the captain’s reports for this week. Last weekend we played Warrandyte away. It was a country footy ground. First quarter we banged a few goals early and things were looking good. In the second quarter we kicked a few more goals. At half time their coach must have given them a big rumble because they came out on fire in the third quarter and that put a lot of pressure on our defence. We finally got used to their full attack, our ruckman had to win the tap outs more and the rovers got the clearances out of the midfield. Fourth quarter it looked pretty steady. When the siren went everyone got in to a huge huddle and then we all got into a straight line with our shoulders interlocked and sang the song. Another good win for the Blues!

Round 5: First win in Blue League

Fitzroy 5.7-37 Park Orchards 3.1-19

Green turns to Blue

Round 4 was the last of the grading rounds.

Although the results were not enough to keep us in Blue league, this new team is very competitive and improving with every match. Potential of these players is high, their development will flourish under the great coaching, and the boys are enjoying it all.

Round 4: Man up boys

Bundoora 6.8-44 Fitzroy 3.2-20

I think we did not do enough manning up and the opposition got a lot of crumbs.
I think we were good at attacking the ball but we have to improve on our manning up skills.
I think Nick attacked the ball and ran hard at the ball. I think Harrison was our best player because he grabbed all of the marks. I did not like the umpire because he gave away too many free kicks to the opposition. I got pinned and the umpire gave it kicking in danger. I might cry at the next match and see if the umpire will give me a free kick. (joke)
Max was also good when he attacked the ball inside the oppositions 50.

Go Roys!!!!!!!!

The Sharks: They were all even, no-one stood out as the best player. I don't know about you but I couldn't pick a best player for their team. They were a tough team, but I like a challenge.

The Roys: We played well but our back line wasn't as good as the week before because we didn't always remember to stick with our man. We kicked straight alot which was really good.

Round 3: Fall short to Green leader

Fitzroy 5.0-30 v Camberwell 6.8-44

It was a nice sunny day but a bit cold at the start of the game. Fitzroy lions had a tough game against the Camberwell sharks. We ended up losing with a score of 30 to 44. We tried extremely hard but couldn’t make it. Some players were really good like Luke who sprinted down the ground to the other side with the ball and kicked a goal. The other team thought Jack was good and gave him a medal. Well done ROY’S.

Round 2: First win to Roys

Balwyn 5.1-31 Fitzroy 5.7-37

I liked how balwyn played in the 1st quarter, in the 2nd we started to play better. Our rucks were even our rovers. Liam he is the best little rover. Yani was a good midfielder, he's is a good kicker, i think Yani can kick it a very long way. In the 3rd quarter the sccores were very even, we went off to a good start and balwyn came strong at the end of the 3rd quarter but we did have a pretty good defence. At the 4th we were winning by two goals and in the middle of the quarter Balwyn scored a goal, at the end Balwyn had it down near there goals but then the siren went and then every one was happy YAY!!!!!

By Max

The second game was great! Everyone played well, although I can't remember any one in particular who especially played a great game or who kicked one or two goals... but I think that Jack was a fantastic ruck man, but really every one played a fantastic game. Balwyn was a tough team, but in the end, we beat them. It just goes to show that we really are a mighty bunch of fellows.

Round 1: Playing it hard

Fitzroy 1.1-7 Kew 12.15-87

I thought that the game we played was pretty good against a very good team we need to work on our handballing our kicks and our drills I thought they were extremely hard. We played a excellent game. After we went in and thrashed Ivanhoe we weren’t prepared to for Kew the best team in the league. But we went out and did our best and that’s what it’s all about. We had lots of fun and I hope we do better against Burwood.
