After the hiding we received from Ivanhoe in the practice match it was great to travel out to Warrandyte on a warm, sunny, still autumn day and kick off season 2009 with an away win. After a fairly even 1st quarter the Roys were able to pile on 5 goals in the 2nd and set up what turned out to be a match winning lead. Our backline played tight and won a lot of the ball. The midfield ran hard and moved the ball well and there were some great marks and roving of the packs in the forward line. Had we kicked straighter the winning margin would have been bigger. Warrandyte played well and were particularly impressive in running out the game as some of our blokes ran out of steam in the final quarter. It was particularly pleasing to welcome our 6 new team members – Angus, Ben, Caelum, Dylan, Liam and Zac – by spraying them with water in the middle of the playing group as we belted out the Club Song in the rooms after the game. Go the ROYS!!!
