Match Report Round 13

In swirling conditions, our boys took on the Camberwell Sharks for the first time this season. Down by three players at the beginning of the game, Anthony and Hugh had to take their place on the opposition side for the first two quarters of the game and our team had the unfamiliar sight of a bench as we rotated players to even up.

The Roys had all the play in the first quarter keeping the ball down in our forward line for all but a minute or so. And while Ben C and Harrison were able to score thanks to good forward movements by Aidan, Tom, Ben Mac and Charlie, the team failed to capitalise on the wind to move further ahead.

Camberwell came out strongly in the second quarter and scored early but the game remained a scrappy affair with both teams' defensive players blocking forward moves. Harry P and Riley kept the pressure up, with Harry P coming so far forward at one point he was almost in the forward half.

At the other end, Daniel, Harry D-T, Micah and Lewis did good things, with one passage culminating in David being able to run into an open goal and score truly. Unfortunately, Rory's game ended when his shoulder popped out again, but he was then able to provide good vocal support to the team for the rest of the game.

Further goals to Ben C and Aidan kept us ahead, but the game proved a match threw up few highlights with players fighting to pick up the ball and find teammates either by handballs or kicks.

At the end of the game, the Roys were home 8. 6. 54 to 3. 4. 22 and Daniel was judged a well deserved winner of the medal given by the Camberwell Sharks.
