Match Report Rd 14

The first quarter of the game against Kew Rovers saw a welcome return to form by the Roys, with marks held, passes made successfully and most of the play in our forward 50. Unfortunately, apart from a strong final quarter, the remainder of the game was dominated by Kew Rovers.

Kew Rovers' moved the ball forward at the beginning of the game, but this was repelled by Harry P, who marked strongly, and quickly moved the ball back towards our goal. Assistance by Riley, Oskar, Harrison and Daniel meant the ball continued toward our attacking half and resulted in the first goal of the day to Ben C.

Daniel scored the Roys' second goal after some strong play from the centre by Aidan and, at this stage, Kew Rovers remained goalless. Strong marking by Anthony, forward moves by Charlie and Ben Mac and beautiful defensive play by Fraser against players of much bigger stature were other features of a very good first quarter.

The Roy boys tried hard throughout the second and third quarters and there were some good passages of play, but Kew Rovers were consistently first to the ball and happy to kick long when they had possession. David, Harry D-T and Aidan battled effectively in the centre and Ben Mac did his best to shake off his one, sometimes, two taggers to mark and kick forward.

Despite Kew kicking ahead of the Roys in the middle quarters, the backline should again hold their head high – Harry P, Riley, Oskar and Fraser were particularly good.

Final scores: 4 5 29 to 8 11 59.
