Match Report – Rd 6

In perfect conditions to watch footy, parents and spectators enjoyed another very fine display by our boys against Warrandyte. Lachlan G was a welcome return to the spectating fold for the second game in a row, while Lachlan B was a much appreciated new addition to the injury-depleted Gold team.

From the outset, the game belonged to the Roys with early forward movements leading to four good goals in the first quarter. Ben C marked beautifully before kicking truly and Rory played on to score a quick goal soon after. Adam took some great marks and the play was moved forward well by Riley, Micah, Daniel, Harry D-T, Frazer and Tom. Hugh rucked beautifully, particularly up against Warrandyte's massive No. 27!

The second quarter saw the Warrandyte team lift its game, with some strong overhead marks in defence. But the Roys kept their heads, with Oskar, Riley, Harry P and Harrison maintaining the bulwark defence which has become such a feature of our games. By half time, our boys had added another four goals to be 8 8 56 to Warrandyte 2 1 13.

The third quarter started beautifully with two early goals to Ben Mac and David and the team kept up the high standard for the rest of the quarter, with tireless running by Ben Mac, Lewis and Charlie. Goals came thick and fast during the quarter, with Ben Cap and Adam showing great poise up front when needed. By three-quarter time, the margin was 78 points in our favour.

The last quarter was again all Fitzroy, with an early goal by Lewis before goals by newcomer Lachlan B and Ned, who showed he can be trusted to play well anywhere on the ground. And despite an almost broken arm, Aidan made his presence felt while on in the last quarter.

Well done Roys on another strong, team performance, with the final score being an impressive 18 12 120 to 3 4 22.

Congratulations also to the four players invited to train with the YJFL squad: Harry P, Lewis, Daniel, Ben Mac and good luck to Ben and Daniel as they continue to train before the Queens Birthday matches.

Special mention to Riley, too, who would also have been invited (and we're sure selected) if he wasn't going to be overseas when the games are being played.
