Hi footyfans,
A bad weekend of footy, not a winner in our house, the blues, lions and
bombers all lost, not that I care about the bombers.
Unlike last week, this week I detected a few yawns in the rooms before the
game and suspected we could be in for a slow start. I was right our first
quarter was very poor, scrambly footy. We just didn’t seem to be able
to get
any real clear possessions, we were to static. Macleod kicked 4 points, we
were luck they were not goals. Did you notice where they were kicking them
from and how......... from the pockets and flanks..... not steadying before
they kicked. The second quarter was a different story, the poor kicks
rolled through and they were on a runner, fortunately big Dylan got hold of
the ball and went for a run at least we scored one goal. He tells me that he
had good support and that the other kids were telling him that he was
clear..... that I really like.
Things didn’t look to good at halftime, 34pts to 9pts. I heard an opposition
player say that they were killing us...... but as we all know, its never
over till its over.
We could have easily dropped our heads and had our bottoms kicked, but it
was now after midday and the boys started to wake up. they started to run,
take them on, Mike and Dri leading the way, the set play from full back
(Lukes big kick, Wills mark) was the start of it and away we went. I was
really please to see Haris mark and goal, kicked the ball perfectly, (Haris
your ball drop was really good, Helen took a picture of you kicking it).
There was a lot of really good play, Nathan L rebounding the ball, David all
over the ground, Jack applying the pressure, Darcy popped up and took a
mark. (Darc, we need to work on that left foot...more power, better
connection will give you more distance and accuracy). We were really stiff,
Nathan L kicked a goal to level the score (some comeback we were 4 goals
down at halftime), but it was not allowed because of a free kick to
Macleod.....what a bummer, this allowed them to score another goal just
before 3 quarter time..... we were now 2 goals down but still with a real
chance.
Things just were not running our way, Bobby was sick and Nathan F had a sore
knee from getting to many kicks the weeks before.
The last quarter was a cracker and there is not doubt in my mind that we
lost it they didn’t win it.....we had 3 to 4 straight forward chances
to hit
the lead but stuffed it up. I know I know, I keep going on about it but if
we drop marks and don’t kick the b****y goals you can’t win the
game! As
much as it was a loss, it proved to me just how good we can be, if we run
and run together we will score, it looks really good, we dominated the play,
we just have to finish off the good work.
Some really great play in that last quarter, big Luke at full back saved
several goals, the ever reliable Jake and Batesy were good, Simon had his
Sometimes one needs to sit in the bushes and reflect on
best for the year to date, Haris and Calum also had a good one, Mike and Dri this
game of footy
never stopped.
Oh well better luck next week, thats the way it goes, thats footy as they
say.
News Flash
I’ve just received an email from Joe (Deans Mum), Deano has a broken toe
and
will out for 6 weeks, so much for the Colman Medal Deano!
Please also remember training is at Alfred Cres, I know its difficult with
school etc. So lets make it from 4.10 to 5.30 get there as early as you can.
By the way we are still 5th on the ladder.
Cheers Rod
