Hi
everyone
Not only does Rod have an assistant coach, he also now has an apprentice match
reporter. Here goes!
The boys had a great win on Sunday, which was sweet revenge as Camberwell bundled
us out of the finals last year.
As always when we play a 1.00 game we are switched on, and on the form shown on
Sunday we could match it with any Gold team. We just need to also do this in our
earlier games, and we are a potential finals side.
It was a great team effort... we got on top, but Camberwell came at us early in
the last quarter, and looked like getting a run on. But as a good team should,
we first of all resisted the challenge, and then restored our earlier dominance.
So many good players!! . As usual, Dylan, James, Luke, Mike and Indri, got a lot
of the ball and kept our momentum going, even when challenged. Indri and Mike
remind me of the Nankervis brothers ... they just keep finding each other. (For
those parents too young to remember them, just ask Geoff or me)
Some others that caught my eye, either for good solid performances all day, or
for some special moments......
Jake...some great in an under work, especially in the first half when the game
was there to be won. A lot of it may not get noticed as he does his best work
at the bottom of packs and feeding it out.
Michael H....... getting better every week. Anticipated well and led his man to
the ball. Good positive stuff. Congrats on getting the medal.
Nathan F. If he moves, marks and kicks like a Centre half forward then he must
be one. As Bob Davis (for those who just said "who?" - refer my Nankervis
remarks above) used to say "I think we've found one!". Well done Nathan,
you are a real focal point up forward.
The other Nathan (L). Uncanny ball sense. You just know where to go to find the
footy.(and what to do with it once you have got it.) Set up 3 goals with some
smart football. Found Dylan L, Nathan F and Indri with perfect passes.
Calum... same as for Nathan L. A natural forward, who knows where the goals are.
Finished off some attacking moves beautifully. Great goal from the boundary.
David H. Great saving mark in the last line of defence. Not only did you beat
3 opponents, and save a certain goal, you rebounded well by playing on and leaving
them all flatfooted. Another great goal saving mark was taken by Dylan R. Showed
good judgement under pressure.
Haris... every week he is up against bigger and heavier opponents, and he does
a great job of providing a contest, and giving us first chance at the stoppages.
Special mention to Darcy, Batesy, Cossie and Alex. They may not be the biggest
guys on the field, but their attack on the ball is fearless. Inspiring stuff!
Also special mention to Rod and Danny. You guys lead by example, with passion
to get the best out of the team. Your knowledge of the game (except for your choice
of AFL team) is outstanding. Us mere bystanders really appreciate your efforts.
Finally , congratulations to Dylan L and James. They showed yet again on Sunday
why they were picked for the Rep team. If you are at a loose end this weekend
go along and support them at the game. Rod emailed details earlier in the week.
Cheers
Ray
