Round 9: Fitzroy 16.16.112 d Macleod 1.1.7 (Winsor Park 11:30am)

Back to Winsor Park in Macleod for the 2nd time this season, however this time against the Blue team, after the Green Macleod team moved up to Brown. Similar conditions greeted us with a moderate northerly breeze ensuring the ball spent most of its time on the scoreboard side of the ground.
We jumped Macleod early with our co captain Scobie providing great run from the middle. The ball was soon in the hot spot and we converted to apply immediate scoreboard pressure. Scobie again got a centre clearance to bang the ball forward to setup another scoring opportunity and we soon had 2 on the board. Our boys were dominant for most of the quarter and we wnt in with a handy 3 goal lead.
The second quarter was frustrating as we dominated play again, however didn't convert our opportunities and we stacked on at least 6 behinds, with a couple of majors. Big Josh was dominating in the ruck with all players getting to the contest and driving the ball forward at every opportunity. Macleod had only 1 win for the season, however were providing a good contest with a clearly undersized list. Against the run of play, they scored a major to close the gap slightly on the Roys. We went into half time with a big lead of 40 odd points and heads high.
After consuming the snakes at half time, we were off and running again scoring freely in Q3. Josh still rucking superbly and the runners all over the ground providing drive and rebound, including Felix, Robbo, Dicko, Sam R, Sam H, Himmi, Charlie S up forward. The coach had set a target for the boys to win by 100 points and clearly the boys had that in their sights. The 3 qtr time siren blew and we had 10 majors on the board and about the same number of minors, keeping Macleod scoreless to increase our lead.
More inspirational words from the coach at the break, saw the boys come out all guns blazing. The centre clearance work from Josh, Charlie C, Robbo, Sam H, Felix, Sam R and Matt was sensational, leaving Macleod wondering what was happening. The ball repeatedly found its way to our hot spot, where it was repeatedly converted for majors, with Himi, Jack, and Lucy finishing off the good work. Still work had to be done to complete the days work and meet the coaches challenge of a 100 point margin. This was completed with only seconds on the clock with Scobie marking and converting. The final siren sounded and the Roys had bounced back big time from last weeks disappointing loss. 105 point vistors, our biggest score for the season and a much needed percentage booster. The sound barrier was broken with the lads belting out the theme song several times. Winsor Park was a much happier place this time around. Go Roys!
