Around the Grounds - Grand Finals
Congratulations to all players and parents of the three
fabulous teams that represented the FJFC in grand finals on the weekend
- the U10 Blue (3), U11 Blue (2) and U12 Blue teams.
A special well done to the U12 Blue team which held on by one point
to be Fitzroy's Premiership team for 2009. Coach, Chris, and Team Manager,
Steve, did sensational jobs in marshalling their boys and 2 girls through
the home and away and finals series.
The U10s and 11s were gallant in defeat. The U10s showed incredible
drive and skills for such a young age and looked like they were going
to be taking home the flag at a couple of points during the game. Unfortunately,
strong wind and several tall opponents made the difference in the end,
but they certainly didn't give up. Well done to Andy, Gerry and Peter
for a great season of coaching and managing.
And, losing by only 2 points, were the Under 11 Blue team under the
guidance of coach Anthony, who didn't let a small thing like a shoulder
operation interrupt the team's preparations. His charges also battled
on fiercely all game and looked to have the better of Park Orchards
at half time. After a hard fought second half, which wasn't without
its controversies, the FJFC boys took the game right to the final seconds.
Well done also to Sharon and Roz for all their hard work.
Members of the three teams and other FJFC members got together for a
rousing celebration on Sunday night at the Bowling Club - the Club song
was sung at least eight times - a fitting end to another fantastic season
of Fitzroy junior footy.
