Firstly, appologies for not providing match reports in previous weeks.
This week's "Mothers Day" match was against the undefeated Kew who were sitting second on the ladder, and had beaten one of the sides who had beaten us earlier in the season.
The match was played at Kew on a fine sunny day on a smaller, albeit sloping ground.
Having lost the toss, the boys kicked up the hill, and managed to outscore Kew in the first quarter, 2 goals to 1 through some great team play, and excellent defence. The boys were manning up well & playing in position, preventing the easy goals by the opposition seen in previous weeks, as well as moving it well between each other, and as usual, winning most of the contested footy.
The second quarter down the hill the boys dominated play, and could have been further in front, and extended the lead to 7 points at half time.
The third quarter saw a great defensive effort restricting Kew to 1.3 through great position play, getting the ball, and tackling well when they didn't. Some of the marking by the boys was fantastic.
Kew led by 2 points at the final change.
The last quarter the boys dominated play, restricting Kew's use of the ball by playing in position, chasing & tackling, and moving it quickly when they had it. The result,a great 13 point win against the second top team !!! Some fantastic individual efforts & an overall great team game.
WELL DONE TEAM !!! The win should give you all confidence for the rest of the season that you can take on and play well against any team, particularly with the effort you all put in today. Once again well done & it was great to hear the team song again ! Go Roys !!
Many thanks to all the helpers & supporters today, particularly Justin for arranging the great Mother's Day gesture.
