Ashburton : 8 goals 11 points ( 59 ) defeated FJFC : 5 goals 7 points ( 37)
Mothers Day
Beautiful Autumn Afternoon
Cute little ground (Ferndale Park ) in leafy Glen Iris
First Quarter
Ashburton attached strongly to the downward sloping Southern end.
But in first minutes we scored an opportunistic goal through Patrick and Connor.
Our endeavour, though, was very lame for most of this quarter.
Second Quarter
Our intensity improved. Ned was playing a cracker game. Connor B always looked dangerous around the goal.
Third Quarter
Coach Richard was ringing the changes and urging a much greater effort. We were beginning to match our opponents. Hugh and Josh were working hard and effectively all over the ground.
Final quarter
The game was still there to be won.
Ashburton had one outstanding player in particular who dominated all day but began to tire. They looked ragged. We had a chance. We really started to put in.
Three behinds in a row at the scoring end hurt us badly. Digby, Sam and Ahmed showed good flashes of play throughout the game. We outscored them (just) after quarter time.
Not a bad effort in the end but we must start as strongly as we finish !! We can do it !!
Go Roys !!
