This was our last game at Petersen Oval for season 2009 and it would have been good to have notched up a win for our final home game. That was not to be as Kew, even without some of their best players, still ran hard into space, looked for each other, kicked with precision and marked strongly. Not enough of our blokes were willing and able to run as hard and our skills across the team were simply not as polished. Too often we fumbled the ball, did not kick truly to a target or dropped contested and uncontested marks. There were certainly some great individual performances – especially from our captain Hugh Curnow who played his guts out for the team as he so regularly does week-in, week-out. Hugh had some good support from some quarters today but our tackle count was down on last week and our intensity was patchy. We did not play out an entire quarter of footy even though we had patches of good footy in each of the four quarters. Like last week, we also failed to make the most of our shots on goal - again failing to make allowances for a slight across-ground breeze. We’ve got two more games ahead of us and two opportunities to play out a consistent game of footy for all four quarters. We will be competitive if we can string it together and it would be great to finish off the season on a more positive note.
