Round 7 Match Report

Fitzroy 10 . 5 - 65

Glen Iris 13 . 13 - 91

Another glorious sunny, still, autumn day at Peterson Oval - perfect for a home game of footy - but for the 2nd week in a row our blokes did not fire in the 1st three quarters.  Glen Iris were hungrier for the footy, ran harder, were first to the contest and only their inaccurate kicking in front of goal kept us in the game with any chance of a come from behind win.  This week we had no scoreless quarters and we were much more accurate in our shots on goal than we were earlier in the season - there were some positives out of the first three quarters.  But, in a repeat performance of our game against Kew last week, we waited until the last quarter to play our best footy.  Despite kicking 4 goals to 0 in the final term it was all too late for us - the game was already won and all we managed to do was salvage some pride and remind ourselves of how well we can play when everyone is having a red hot go.  It's almost halfway through the season and we ought to be improving in our consistency - playing hard, committed team footy for all 4 quarters.  We aren't there yet and our challenge over the next two weeks (no game this Queen's Birthday long weekend) as we prepare for our next game against Warrandyte is to focus on playing our best footy from the first bounce until the final whistle.
