It was a cold and miserable day down in Ashburton. Fitzroy boys and Ashburtons
everywhere. Good day for a flogging! It was our first game and already every
one knew each other very well. We felt great. You probably all know but for
those don’t, it was Zack’s first coaching match, and I think I
am talking on behalf of every one when I say that he did great. He really
put the music in the band for us. He is shaping up to be a really successful
coach. Good on ya Zak! Now how about the legendary under 11 Green Fitzroy
boys? Man where do I start? We ran onto the ground, cold, a bit nervous, but
very enthusiastic and we soon got our act together. We ended up winning by
a lot, and I’m not surprised. Every one played a blinder, especially
the new guys who really put a lot of the score up on that big black board.
I think that OTTO, LEWIS, LUKE, YANNIS, JOSH, and VINCENT should be singled
out for their awesome display of excellence, but they were supported by the
rest of us who were also pretty awesome and excellent too. Bring on the rest
of the season. Knowing we have a team like this it is going to be great.
GO FITZROY!!!

Chins Up Gorrilas! We got a wake up call on Sunday after an easy start the week before. Injuries and a very good opponent meant we couldn't quite close the gap but we showed enough to have confidence we'll improve in the near future - starting this weekend! A lot of guys had good games and started to show some form. Congratulations to Yiannis on his recognition by the opposing side! The coach will no doubt have more to say and I reckon everyone had a dip and did good stuff but I'd also like to mention Josh, Louis, Otto, Wilson, Xander, Hugh, Harry, Zac and Nick for doing well and showing us some terrific fight and play. Vincent too was showing a bit 'til his ankle gave out. If we can put it together for four quarters and put a bit more emphasis on our defensive game, I'm confident we'll hold our own very nicely in this tougher grade.
This is Zander writing to you about how we played on Sunday against Glen Iris. We played very well throughout the game.
The midfielders did very well to get some clearances out of the centre. Otto played very well in the midfield with some beautiful tackles.
Yiannis played very well with some runs down the wing. I think when we got the ball we had one to many handballs and sometimes lost control of the
ball. We were in control for most of the game and for the third week in a row we were beaten in the last quarter.
Their last goal was was scored with a bit of luck as a boy just ran off the
interchange bench and collected a loose ball, ran into the forward line and
they scored with minutes to go.
The whole ANZAC day was great. The minute silence was something I've never
experienced and it was a privilege to be captain on that day.

Chin up Roys !!
After a solid first up win we’ve come up short in our last two games. The boys are putting in a solid effort for three quarters, yet we fade away in the last quarter in consecutive weeks.
Sunday’s game was surely one that got away but all boys can hold their heads up high for having a red hot go. One more grading game and down to the real stuff. Our team will have more structure moving forward as children become familiar with one another and myself.

Three two one Fitzroy! As we start to go to on to the ground were playing Kew Rovers who are one above us on the ladder. In the first quarter it was all tackle tackle tackle no getting the ball out of the pack. There goes the siren for the first quarter. We are in front only by a little bit. Zac(our coach) tells us to get that ball out of the pack and move the ball forward. We go on to the ground again and do very well in our positions. At half time all Zac is giving us a clap about how well we did. Were all hungry eating oranges scoffing them down like pigs and same with the snakes. We go on to the ground for the third quarter with full stomachs we kick a lot of goals but they snag some in the last five minutes of quarter and it is pretty close to. The last quarter starts, were we have been struggling for the last four games, but today that changed we dominated with Zac kicking three unanswered goals. We end up having a great win.

Hi Roy Boys,
I thought it be a fitting way to end a long week, with a quick email to all saying just how proud I was with our boy's effort today.
Although I didn't show much emotion after today's win, believe me when I say I was ecstatic with the boys endeavour to win the hard ball and play as a team. Some parents have even suggested I sedate myself during the match to avoid serious injury to myself...possibly true!! ha ha
Since our loss to Glen Iris 3 weeks ago our boys have played great team footy and are now sitting second in our league.
Over the past fortnight I've noticed a change in their attitude at training and on game day and most importantly the boys are prepared to do the hard stuff and work for one another.
Although the engine room and forwards generally receive all the credit, today's win was on the back of our strong/tight-nit backline, lead by Hugh (Captain).
It's not always easy playing in defence but Hugh and some other boys should hold their heads up high and know that without them gelling like they have, we'd be in a lot of trouble.
While on email, I'd also like to thank Simon for his updates and keeping me level headed most times, along with Gerry and Dave for all their help at training and on match day. To all you parents that brave the cold and help out with rostered duties, a big thank you as our game wouldn't proceed without parental help.
Well done Roys and how far we go depends on your attitude and your ability to keep learning how to play as a team...
Great effort Boys!!
Zac (still chuckling at the thought of beating Glen Iris)
We played well, but I think we could have played harder.
Luke played a great game and deserved the 1% award,
We also got a bit frustrated with them saying they flogged
Us but remember if they think 9 points is a flogging, then
They must be a bad side because in round 4 I remember
We beat them 52-31.
