Match Report – Rd 1

 

Well it was footy and winter all rolled up into one – and thankfully a win, as well!

 

In cold, windy, blustery, and sometimes sunny conditions, the Roys came out fast in their first outing under Andy and his coaching team. In a first quarter marked by lots of running and constant forward movement, the team kept arch rivals St Mary's goalless.

 

Ben C and Ben Mac made the grandstand wing their own with lots of support from Fraser W, Oskar, Aidan and Lewis and two great first quarter goals were scored by Adam and Lewis. Any forward moves by St Mary's were ably shut down by Tom, Riley, Harry P and Harrison.

 

The second quarter and beginning of the third quarter saw a stronger, more focussed St Mary's team who gradually played themselves into the lead. New boys Micah, Ned and Hugh all showed they are fantastic additions to the team with strong performances, supported by Rory constantly using his strength.

 

The Roys only goal for the quarter was a lovely piece of play from the centre bounce through Oskar to Tom R in the goal square.

 

The last quarter was all Fitzroy with two beautiful goals apiece to Micah and Charlie and a lovely shot, after checking the wind, by Harrison.

 

Final score: 8. 11. 59 to 6. 5. 41.

 

Well done Roys – a great start to the 2010 season.
