Match Report – Rd 7

 

Season 2010 is turning out to be a pretty enjoyable season of footy; with most games being played in bright sunshine and leading to good wins by our boys.

 

And while the boys played well for their 99 point win over Macleod, there were some moments particularly in the second quarter, when it appeared their minds were elsewhere!

 

The Roys got off to a great start with an early goal by Ben Cap, which was quickly followed by a goal by Adam after a strong mark. Charlie moved the ball well out from the centre, while Ben Mac, Aidan and Harry D-T played well up front and Harry P and Harrison repelled anything that strayed towards the Macleod scoring end.

 

Daniel and Aidan both kicked great goals during the quarter, in between another 3 goals by Adam. And Ben Cap ended the quarter as he had started with another goal.

 

The second quarter saw a rejuvenated Macleod side come out running, seemingly catching our boys by surprise. Both sides added two goals apiece, with Adam taking his half-time tally to 5 goals, while Ben Mac found the middle after a couple of early points. And while the quarter wasn't a great one, players like Tom, Oskar, Ned, Harrison and Riley showed just how important they are as they stopped Macleod's forward moves and helped keep Fitzroy far enough in front.

 

In the third quarter, the Roys began to slowly turn the game around to dominate the play again, particularly by the end of the term. Ned and Hugh both rucked well, Lewis, Rory, Charlie, Aidan, Daniel, Micah and Anthony all gathered possessions and showed their skills and the team's tackling improved. Frees awarded after strong tackles by Rory and Ben Mac resulted in 2 goals by Ben Mac, while Adam continued his great day with a 6 th goal.

 

The last quarter was all Fitzroy, with another 6 goals added to the tally. Charlie backed himself to take a fantastic mark, then played on to kick to Daniel who delivered his 2 nd goal for the day. Lewis moved the ball forward to a running Riley who goaled, before Charlie, Daniel, Oskar all combined to get the ball to Harry D-T who pulled off yet another snap for goal.

 

After a great quarter of hard tackles and successful possessions from packs, David also took the opportunity to join the goal kickers. Adam kicked his 7 th , Tom continued his great play and Charlie wrapped up his best on ground performance with a goal on the siren.
