Colts 2 Round 2 Match Report: 8-5-07
Sunday saw us take on Ashburton at the Burwood Reserve oval, on a sun-drenched day. The game was meant to be a chance to expel the demons of last weekend's drubbing. Unfortunately Ashburton came out of the blocks with a flying start, kicking 9 goals to nothing in the first quarter. |
At quarter time the team discussed its lack of toughness at the ball and accountability to our man. The second quarter was an improvement - it took Ashburton 10 minutes into the quarter to register its first goal. That was soon followed by Fitzroy's first goal of the game. However with only a few minutes left in the half, Ashburton slammed on another 5 goals. The score at halftime stood at 15 to 1. |
The much-improved effort in the second quarter needed to be matched and bettered in the third. The players came out after half time on a mission to earn respect and played a brilliant quarter of football actually outscoring the opposition 4 goals to 3. All players contributed with good running and a steely resolve to be competitive.

Nick D booted 3 goals for the quarter, (4 for the game), with Jamal kicking a tough break-through, centre-corridor goal. The players proved that with self-belief they could match a side that is clearly miss-graded for the first 4 rounds. The Fitzroy Colts 2 need to work on playing that brand of footy consistently for 4 quarters, which the coaching staff know they are able to do. |
We have had two weeks of pain with large defeats to very good oppositions, but the signs are there, showing a turn of fortune is just around the corner.
We take on Heidelberg at home next week - let's put into practice what
we achieved in the third quarter for the whole game next week and
take our chance of turning this season around.

Colts 2 Round 1 match report: 29-4-07
Yes football is back for season 2007! The Fitzroy Colts 3 side played the newly formed Glen Iris Sharked at home on a wet rainy day. The colts ran out in their heritage strip, a Guernsey that has not been on the BSO for more than 40 years. |
The Fitzroy faithful had come to witness the occasion and hopefully they would see a competitive game of football. Alas it was not to be the colts were mauled and taught a football lesson by a much larger Glen Iris shark's side. The colts tried hard all day and their hard efforts were recognised and appreciated by all, However the sharks were just to strong, and ran in many numbers swamping our back-line who were under siege all day. |
We rotated players in many positions trying to find the answer. It just wasn't to be. The scoreboard says it was a big defeat, (by 96 pts) but the boys never ever gave up and tried all day. This week we will work on our movement of the ball in training and butter up for a better showing this weekend against Ashburton.
