ROUND
EIGHT - FITZROY v. EMMAUS WATTLE PARK
Sunday
24 June (Peterson Oval)
It
was celebration time for Fitzroy's Round Eight match, with no less
than eight players making their 50th appearance for the Lions.
A
magnificently constructed banner was produced by a small collection
of dedicated and artistic fathers who worked about as hard as Chris
Tarrant's bodyguard in order to properly mark this auspicious occasion.
Hamish
was back after his absence of last week and he was made co-captain
with the in-form Zeb. There were more absences this week, but thankfully
we were still able to scrape in with 18 players for today's game.
Fitzroy
started very well with five first quarter goals- a tally that could
have been higher.
Sam
H & Christian each got two, while Murray scored another. Chris
S was unlucky to have his short touched on the line after taking
a fine mark on the lead.
Emmaus
steadied in the second quarter and kept us goal-less after scoring
one goal themselves.
Fitzroy
came out strongly in the third quarter and produced several dazzling
displays of teamwork. Murray scored his second goal and added the
skill of passing to his growing repertoire of tricks. Paddy was
back in form with a goal, and Declan celebrated his return to the
forward line with two. Will L got into the act with a goal and Christian
topped off the quarter with his third. Jesse was again dominant
in the ruck and Harry was his usual consistent self, setting up
many important passages of team play. Zeb, Alex T & Sam H were
again busy across the back line. We had a handy lead of 11 goals
to 2 at three quarter time and we proceeded to go on with the job
in the last quarter.
Paddy
started the goal scoring and he was followed with goals from Harry,
Sam W & Moreno. Moreno was unlucky not to kick a couple more,
but gladly received a free kick after some ‘naughty' words from
a verbally expressive opponent.
A
great win and a great day for the team. Thanks to Terry and the
other helpers for making this a special and memorable occasion for
the boys.
