Round 10 Match Report VS Bulleen Tempelstowe 15th July 2007 After a two week break, the Fitzroy Colts 1 team faced Bulleen-Templestowe at Brunswick St oval. Bulleen showed right from the start they had come to play, kicking two early goals courtesy of some hard running from their defence and a strong attack on the ball.
A clever side step enabled Nick Brown to kick Fitzroy's first goal before Will Pickering kicked our second after an opportunistic swoop on a loose goal square ball. However, Bulleen responded quickly to kick two quick goals with only Sam Baker at half back and Rory Angiolella in the centre providing any effective drive.
Fitzroy entered the second quarter 13 points behind and were immediately under further pressure as Bulleen kick two quick goals. Strong running, cleaner ball handling and terrific tackling were the key factors in Bulleen's commanding lead and whilst Rory and Jesse were trying hard in the midfield, our inability to win & move the ball quickly from around the stoppages was limiting our forwards opportunities.
Sam Baker continued to stem some of the Bulleen's flow forward however another two goals saw Bulleen head into the long break with 32 point lead which would have been greater if not for a nice left foot snap from Nick Demelis minutes earlier.
Bullen scored the first goal of the third quarter but a quick reply to Will Pickering after a nice kick from Daniel Bisetto gave the team a lift however Bulleen the remainder of the term was largely ineffective for Fitzroy with Bulleen continuing to move the ball far too easily from defence to attack, putting the defence under constant pressure. Sam and Chris Krousoratis tried to turn things around with some hard running out of defence however the lack of support at the contests and poor defensive pressure saw Bulleen kick two more goals to lead by 44 points at three quarter time.
Fitzroy lifted in the early stages of the final term with Chris Morton, in his best game for the year, leading the way by kicking two goals and winning multiple possessions. Jesse and Sam continued to win the ball whilst Daniel Bisetto took some strong marks up forward. Will Pickering kicked his third goal, a good effort given the limited chances however, despite having plenty of the ball, Fitzroy were outscored by Bulleen who kicked five goals for the quarter and run out well deserved winners by 53 points. This was a very disappointing result but a great learning experience for the boys as we start to think about the finals. The team face another big challenge next week coming up against Beverley-Hills at their home ground.
Go Roys Michael
