MATCH REPORT
Fitzroy Under 10 Brown
Sunday 1st July - Round 9

victory march

For those of you unlucky enough to have missed watching this game against Park Orchards you missed an absolute pearler!

The Fitzroy players and supporters who made the journey out to the wilds of Warrandyte were rewarded with some exciting footy as well as some fresh country air!

The captains of the Browns team for this match were Declan and Rory and they proudly led the side onto the slightly sloping Stintons Reserve to take on that school of Sharks from Park Orchards. The 1st quarter opened with a show of determination by our boys, which had them into the scoring almost immediately. Rory opened the goal account with a bit of deft footwork off the ground and was followed by Mitchell and Isaac who showed that they were switched on and ready for action. Andrej and Charles were working the ball out of the center and Anthony and Christy made sure that it was delivered to the hot spot via many sharp handballs and sure kicks.

In the 2nd quarter Rory again hit the mark helped by some brilliant teamwork by Noah and Iraklis while Christy continued to make his presence felt across the middle of the ground. The crew in the back line showed their commitment to the coaches quarter time request to hold their positions and George, Harry and Dan needed to fight off some very fierce Shark attacks.

At the half time break Coach Grant reminded everyone of the need for continued teamwork and the greater need for percentage to help our position on the ladder and the boys were fired up for the second half. Noah got things going with a quick goal which began deep in the back line and, aided by some great work by Robbie, Gus “Richo” and Ollie, threaded its way through the corridor to the scoring end.

Declan and Noah then moved the ball out of the center going through the sharp hands of Connor and ending with Aiden who decided it was his turn to goal. Not to be outdone Noah put his name amongst the goal scorers brilliantly assisted by Ben playing his heart out across the center of the ground. Lucien became a running machine and the opposition began to fear his wild war cry as he burst through the packs.

The 4th quarter saw a multiple goal scoring spree the likes of which we had not seen before. Although the ferocious Sharks were circling and driving the ball into our back line we had Marcus and Andrej standing firm while Dan was busy not being bored in the full back position. Isaac was now just getting warmed up and, with some nice assists from Gus M, quickly put a lazy 4 goals onto the scoreboard. Noah feared he was going to be left out of the multiples so he added another 3 goals. But it wasn’t just the big bag of goals (and the healthy percentage) that put a smile on the faces of the coaching staff. It was the brilliant disciplined team game that never wavered from the opening bounce to the final victorious team song and the manner in which this was all delivered to the proud parents and supporters.

It was a magnificent 85 point victory.
Go you Roy Boys!
