Round 15 v. Surrey Sharks
A game that perhaps should have won by three quarter time as Fitzroy dominated play from the start until the last 10 minutes of the third quarter.
Inaccurate kicking for goal including two that hit the post, some over usage of the ball in attack and lack of keeping the ball in the opposition 50 meant that the opposition got more into the game and applied a lot of pressure in the final quarter to equalise two minutes before the siren.
Another minute and Surrey Sharks could well have won the game!
Both teams played attacking and determined football throughout and were warmly applauded off the ground at the end by both sets of parents and supporters, some of whom got more grey hairs as a result such a close encounter.
Marking around the ground was a good feature as was our ability to move the ball through defence, via on ball players into attack.
It was good to see Daniel Besetto have a good spell in the ruck and perform effectively as we also lose regular ruckman Nikos Shannon in the final game next week.
With one game to play and one that we can win if we play well, we will continue tackling and shepherding.
Captain for the day was Kyle Grimshaw who is another improving player who is playing with much more confidence and showing good skills and ability.
Zac Hutterer played effectively in several positions during the course of the game and kicked a brilliant goal after a run in from the flank in the third quarter.
Paddy McQueen played well in the second half when moved to attack and helped set up some attacks after taking strong marks. He also won the Surrey Sharks Sportsman’s award presented at the end of the game.
