Round 15
Ivanhoe Vs Fitzroy Colts
Today’s theme was Show Down; this would be the third time this season we would play Ivanhoe. The previous 2 occasions Ivanhoe took the points, Today we were determined that would change. With Ivanhoe beating St Marys the week before, our chances of playing finals had ended, but the team had made a promise to finish the season on a positive note for the 15 players who would play their last game for the Fitzroy Juniors Football Club. In the last two weeks, we had beaten second and third on the ladder and today, we were playing third placed Ivanhoe who were playing for a top two position and a double chance. The first quarter was fast and hard with Ivanhoe kicking the first two goals of the quarter. Our players started to lift and run to create space giving us the next four goals, started by Luke Novello’s speckie in the goal square. Ivanhoe had their chances but were kicking inaccurate. The second and third quarters belonged to Fitzroy, our commitment at the ball was all heart, and we were not letting this game get away. Our run, hardball gets, overhead marking and team support were second to none. In the last Ivanhoe rallied and looked to be working, their way into the game but a couple of late quarter goals to us put the game beyond doubt. So it was a bittersweet victory in the end, we had beaten all sides 2nd and down but missed the final four by one game. I would like to wish the four finalists luck in the coming weeks with my tip being a Bulleen Temp, Ivanhoe grand final. I would also like to thank and wish lots of luck for the future to the 16 colts 1 boys and their parents who are moving on next year, Luke Novello, Tom Cheshire, Antony Harbor, Michael Manoli, David Delio, Daniel Buckley, Jack Parkinson, Curtis Williams, Callan Turner, Michael Lee, Tommy Pinchen-Hogg, Will James, Arlen Nieuwenhuizen, Shannon Young, Billy Burstin and Harry Croft. It has been a real pleasure to coach this group of young men who have shown a real passion to play football for this club. I hope I have made your last year at Fitzroy an enjoyable and memorable one. Lastly, I would also like to thank the first year Colts for stepping and taking on the challenge, and playing in section 1, this will no doubt be a fantastic core group who will do very well in 2007. Thank you.
The Final Scores were:
