Round 15 versus Richmond

On the No 1 oval at Bulleen, Fitzroy2 Colts gave Richmond a lesson in how to play attacking disciplined Football. Richmond have always had the edge on us and with a bench of 5 and with no bench for the Roys and only 17 players it was going to be a "tuff" gig.

Last quarter, the Roys were 3 goals down and Richmond thought they had it in the bag. First bounce saw Roys No 2 Callan get the tap in the circle to our R.Rover, only to then receive a handball back and on 3 steps from the circle kick a 60 meter goal. This inspired the team and 2 more goals were bunged on in quick succession. Weavo was inspiring as F.F. in the last quarter. Willsey controlled the backline like a master general. On this day we were a team, a champion team! Lead by a captain who inspires by example on and off the field.

Scores were even, Richmond dropped their bundle. Six 15 meter penalties awarded against them in the last quarter. This game was ours for the taking. Four more quick goals, Richmond had no answer. They had showed their hand and played their best card. The bluff was called. We were 2 minutes away from snatching our second win for the season over one of the gun sides in the competition. Boy! 2 minutes seemed like 20.
Siren goes, players are happy, parents are happy and Coach is relieved.
The song was sung at a pitch I haven't heard before!
What a great day it was when we did the mighty Fitzroy jumper proud.
