Round 7

St Damians 4-6-30 Def Fitzroy 2 3-9-27

Oh so close !
A tough and hard fought encounter with our team facing the most physical and fast paced opposition so far. The lead changed a number of times, and it was fantastic to see our team dig deep and give it their all, outscoring St Damian’s in the third quarter. But it wasn’t enough to hold them off in the last minute of the game, going down by three points. We will be working on our game day "match ups" and marking at training this week in preparation for the game against Greythorn this Sunday.
Good to see emergencies Sam Hodgkinson and Jay Haupstein cheering on their team mates.
Well done to Daniel Costanzo who showed great drive and team spirit as our team captain.
Many thanks to our match day volunteers who made it possible for our team to play this week:- Tim Walker (Assistant Coach) Liz Breheny & Christine Frith (Trainers) Dennis Rosin (Boundary Umpire) Michael Costanzo (Runner) Ruthven Davy-Greene (Goal Umpire) Tim McCormack (Scorer & Timekeeper) Andrea Draper (Oranges).
A special thanks to Dan Meehan who did a great job as Team Manager

Round 6

Fitzroy 2 12-12-84 Def Macleod B 1-2-8

Two in a row. Well done to our team!!
On another still Autumn day we celebrated our biggest win of the season against an under strength Macleod where sharp ball handling skills, long kicking to position and good team work throughout the game gave us a very healthy percentage booster at the final siren. I was very pleased to see that all our players were “good sports” and accepted the decision to have extra players on our interchange bench to even up numbers with Macleod who were short 8 players for the game. Thanks to Henry de Oliveria who was rostered off this week and came along to support his team mates.
Well done to Rory Trobbiani who was our team captain and ran hard all day.
Many thanks to our match day volunteers who made it possible for our team to play this week:- Neville Hodgkinson (Assistant Coach) Travis Haupstein & Brigid Nossal (Trainers) Dan Meehan (Boundary Umpire) Dennis Rosin (Runner) Anita Catoggio (Goal Umpire) Phil Davis (Scorer & Timekeeper)
Barry Dickens (Interchange Steward) Terry Walsh (Umpire Escort) Jennifer Gough (Oranges).
A special thanks to both Tim Walker and Laurie Catoggio who were on standby as central umpires !

Round 5

HawCitz 4-6-30 Def By Fitzroy 2 8-7-55

They did it for the Mum’s!!
Sticking to a game plan and playing great team football finally paid off on Mothers Day when our Greens beat Hawthorn Citizens by a healthy 25 points. All players are to be congratulated for their commitment over the last four weeks. It was great to see the emergency players attend where possible and for Louis Dickens and Kent Davis to join in singing the club song as the team linked arms together and marched off the oval. Thanks too, to all of our parents who have been outstanding in their support of the team in such a positive and encouraging way over the past five weeks.
Well done Oskar Catoggio who was our team captain this week and presented at the ball all day.

Round 4

Banyule 4-6-30 Def Fitzroy 2 3-3-21

Another close game with Banyule coming away with the win on a strangely windless morning (well in comparison to other weeks!) Our players continued to impress all onlookers with their commitment to their team mates: yelling encouragement, slaps on the back, and celebrating each others successes during the game. This great spirit was most apparent from both Oscar Bennie and Connor Breheny who were rostered out for the round and came along, with their families to cheer on their team from the interchange bench. After four weeks of close results I am so impressed by the way our players have run out each game with such a positive attitude. Well done U10 Green.
Thanks to Guy Palermo who was our team captain for this game and led from the front all day.
Many thanks to our match day volunteers who made it possible for our team to play this week:- Tim Walker (Assistant Coach) Travis Haupstein & Christine Frith (Trainers) Dan Meehan (Boundary Umpire) Michael Costanzo (Runner) Ruthven Davy-Greene (Goal Umpire) Frank Trobbiani (Scorer & Timekeeper) Brigid Rosin (Oranges), Bridget Timlin & Brigid Rosin (Photographers)

Round 3

Fitzroy 2 2-5-17 Lost to Canterbury 3-9-27

In our first game at our home ground the team were united and committed to playing for each other and they showed their true fighting spirit in a tough and hard fought match against Canterbury. It was great to see them in a huddle before each quarter, join hands and shout “Go Roys”. Thencharging to their positions to play good team footy in gusty conditions, and lead at every change.

For the 3 rd week in a row we defended a strong wind in the last quarter only to lose the lead in the last few minutes of the game . On the form they showed on Sunday, we are not far away from a win.

Well done to Jacob McCormack who was our team captain for this game. A special thankyou to Bridget Timlin for the great photo’s

Round 2

Preston

10-8-68

Def

Fitzroy 2

6-10-46

Another close game on Sunday with a strong wing blowing straight down the ground, at three quarter time we were 2 points down. At the start of the last quarter we charged into our forward line, against the wind, scored a goal and were in front. You could feel the team lifting and they battled away for most of the quarter. However, the strength of the bullants running game and very accurate kicking in front of goal helped them pull away for a 22 point win. The final scores being Preston 10-8-68 to FJFC 6-10-46.

It was a big improvement on last week and all our players showed great team spirit, working together, sharing the ball and enjoying their footy as a team.

Many thanks to our match day parents, our two trainers Liz Breheny and Travis Haupstein, Michael Costanzo (Runner), Dan Meehan (Boundary Umpire), Jennifer Gough (Goal Umpire), Dennis Rosin (Timekeeper), Neville Hodgkinson (Assistant Coach), and Glenn Bennie for those much needed oranges at half and three quarter time.
