Round 7 Match Report

VS Ivanhoe 17th June 2007

Ivanhoe commenced the game against Fitzroy Colts 1 in excellent fashion, scoring two goals after only 3 minutes and dominating play all over the ground. A hard running and physical Ivanhoe had caught Fitzroy napping with their midfield proving dangerous however Jesse Dimond and Isaac Anderson started to impose themselves on the game whilst Chris Krousoratis across half back was providing valuable run. It was Jesse with a fine weaving run and goal who ignited the team into action.

Sam West and Ross Borland, starved of opportunities early, were now winning touches across half forward with Sam being rewarded with a fantastic long kick from the boundary that curled through the goals to level the scores. Another goal was quickly added after Ross took a strong mark at centre half-forward to give Fitzroy a 4 point lead.

The second quarter belonged to Fitzroy as they took hold of the game beginning with Rory, Jesse and Isaac in the midfield who combined effectively to continuously give the team first use of the ball both in the middle and around the stoppages. Jesse again opened the scoring for Fitzroy with a terrific snap on the run whilst Ross continued to play well up forward and helped himself to a goal after another mark 35 metres out.

Sam Baker was providing plenty of drive from half back as was Nick Brown on the wing whilst Chris Krousoratis was using his speed and long kicking to Fitzroy's advantage. Jesse and Isaac continued to win possessions at will while Michael Cussen was making his presence felt across half forward. Isaac kicked a great goal from a forward stoppage before disappointingly Ivanhoe replied with two late goals to reduce Fitzroy's lead to 17 points, a margin that should have been much greater except for Fitzroy's wasteful kicking.

Fitzroy took up in the third quarter where they left off in the second, winning the ball in the midfield and getting the ball quickly down to a dangerous forward line including Michael and Ross who kicked a goal each in the quarter. Will Pickering mopped up across half back when playing in the ruck whilst Jesse, Browny, Chris K and Chris Polidoras were responsible for driving the ball forward from across half back and around the middle. Chris Morton underlined his value to the team by continually putting the Ivanhoe defenders under tremendous pressure.

Fitzroy entered the final quarter with a 28 point lead and courtesy of Dylan Temple's mobility at full forward, extended that lead as Dylan kicked two goals in the first 3 minutes of the quarter. The backline were again very reliable with Will Johnson, Max Rogers and Jack Atkinson leading the way. Michael Cussen was marking everything up forward and Chris Krousoratis, after playing well down back, came forward and kicked two handy goals to push Fitzroy's lead out to 46 points.

The quick hands of Isaac repeatedly released Jesse Dimond who finished the game as he started, picking up touches at will. Disapointingly two quick goals to Ivanhoe pulled them closer to Fitzroy before Rory generously short passed to Ross who goaled after the siren to see Fitzroy finish up winners by 41 points.

Go Roys

Michael
