Round 4 Sunday 20 May 07

We travelled to Toorak Park on Sunday for our encounter with Prahran.
It was a close contest until the last quarter when again a significant
height disadvantage took its toll.  Our boys were in front for most of
the first three quarters and were winning roughly 80% of the free kicks
because they were prepared to get in front and put their heads over the
ball.  The endeavour was fantastic and the boys will gain a lot of
confidence from this performance.  Our opposition had a strong bench and
in the last quarter our tired legs began to show as Prahran loaded their
forward line with some larger strong marking forwards who dominated the
last 15 minutes of play.  The scoreboard really didn't reflect the game
as it was only the last passage of the game when Fitzroy succumbed.  The
boys will have gained significant confidence from this display and a win
is not far away.  Tom was very pleased with the boys efforts and there
were no passengers in a strong team performance.

Round 3 Sunday 13 May 07

Fitzroy Green had a tough day at the office on Sunday.  The main
highlight was getting back to the traditional home at "Brunswick st
oval".  The ground was in pretty good nick considering its climatic
challenges and we hosted Mt Waverley in a setting fit for the football
Gods.  Sadly it went downhill after that.  Mt Waverley were an
impressive outfit with three or four larger and highly skilled
footballers.  Our overall height and strength disadvantage told as the
game wore on.  The boys lacked nothing in endeavour and tried hard all
day but Mt Waverley ran the lines hard all day and with long kicking to
larger targets, and an almost impassable centre half back, we were a
little outclassed.  Our team did have its moments though, and when the
boys ran and shared the footy they looked good.
