MATCH REPORT
Fitzroy under 10 Brown
Sunday 17th June 2007 – Round 7

Greetings Roy Boy Brown supporters,

Our enthusiastic team of footballers hosted St Mary’s West at the Alfred Crescent home ground in a fairly tough encounter for the boys.

The 2 captains, Noah and Iraklis led our team who were up against the well turned out St Mary’s and it was a battle from the opening siren. The crew in the back line were made to work hard by the determined St Mary’s and Aiden, Connor, Gus M and Isaac worked well together to hold back the attempts on goal.

At the other end of the ground Andrej and Ben were putting their skills to use when a very determined Chas and Gus R. with Noah leading by example delivered the ball out of the centre. With the unstoppable Daniel working hard it was hard to see why the only scores going on the board were of the behind variety.

The 2nd and 3rd quarters were an even grimmer battle to make the scoreboard tick over and Christy, Tom and Joel were looking for more to do up forward.

Alexie and Oliver were using their positions in the square to change the fortunes of Fitzroy but the boys in the back line were having to tackle and mark from one side of the ground to the other. Sometimes Rory, Mitchell and the Gus gang were all that was between St Mary’s and an avalanche of goals.

In the final quarter the coaches message started getting through and players such as Lucien, Marcus and Tom began having an affect on the flow of play in the forward line.  When some of Robbie’s efforts finally resulted in a goal the boys were inspired and lifted their own efforts across the ground.

Declan found something left in the tank and goaled for the Roy Boys to give us a little bit of respectability on the scoreboard with the final score seeing a Fitzroy brownout by 41 points. With a bit of determination and effort at training this week and listening to the coach’s words of wisdom I’m sure our boys will regain that winning feeling.

Go you Roy Boys!
