MATCH REPORT
Fitzroy under 10 Brown
Sunday 24th June 2007 – Round 8

Round 8, we were back at the Alfred Crescent home ground up against Kew Rovers and our boys came to play!

The captains Connor and Mitchell led the team out onto the ground and while the 1st quarter was a bit of a slog and the opposition scored the only goal we could see the start of some fine teamwork.

The boys down back were doing the team thing and holding position and we saw some great efforts in the work of Ben, Charles and Christy while Noah and Anthony were resolute in defence.

The 2nd quarter saw our boys lift to another level and suddenly things began to fall into place as they could see how working as a team unit could pay off. Oliver fired off a good goal to get things going and then Chas had a couple of brilliant passages of play that resulted in 2 more goals. Andrej and Lucien worked with a determined Declan to shut down Kew’s scoring efforts and Mitchell was everywhere in the midfield action.

At the half time break the boys were encouraged by some reinforcing of coach Grants message about team play and with an infusion of energy from the snakes and oranges they stepped up for the 3rd quarter.

Isaac made his presence felt with an excellent goal and Iraklis nearly stole the show with some gutsy marking in the goal square. Not to be outdone, Robbie and Alexie peppered the goals, which resulted in another goal and quite a few points. Gus “Richo” Richardson showed he didn’t have the frustrating habits of his namesake by slotting home a goal with a perfectly straight kick.

Aiden and Connor were right up there in the midfield clearances and Rory showed some of his left foot kicking skills while under pressure.

The 4th quarter brought more of the same solid teamwork from every position and Gus M. and Harry were on fire up forward. Robbie had another great passage of play, bursting out of a pack and chalking up a good goal and Marcus showed what he was capable of in the goal-scoring department. George was relentless in working the ball to the hotspot and when Alexie scored a goal with a set shot we knew the Roy Boys were going to be belting out the song back in the rooms.

The final margin was an impressive 58 points and there were plenty of happy faces as the boys walked off the ground.
This team is now starting to work well together and hopefully it will show in the weeks to come as they continue to have a bit of fun and perform like a mighty bunch of boys.
Go you Roy Boys.
