Match Reports

Colts round 6 Fitzroy 2 v St Mary’s
Today, the two largest teams in the Yarra JFL faced off in a home and away game at Brunswick Street.

It was a really tough gig today, especially after so many last minute withdrawals, but we were competitive and full of spirit.
Forget the scoreboard; today was a great set of ‘personal bests’ for the players and the team. We played with purpose and structure, as best we could, following team rules. We did ourselves and the club proud.
The centre structure worked well with Liam O, Lauchy P, Patrick W and Nick M competitive. Set plays with Murray W and Paddy D split the play apart and gave the team hope. Paddy D had 2 shots on goal on the run, one effective, one touched on the line. The ‘Blue Boys’ were relentless. Tackling was fierce and competitive and set the pattern for the day. Murray W led all day and gave us a competitive target.
Their tally of many goals and 30 points could have been devastating and embarrassing for the club, if not for our consistent harassment, tackling and desperation to be respected.
Inspirational highlights include Kaan’s chasing and tackling; Dieter’s control of the backline; the 2 Bens’ uncompromising hard work across back, easily their best games for the year; Patrick C kicking long and hard and providing a contest; Jack E-B attacking every ball; Boris’ special moments; Paddy D’s harassment and continual marking on the run; Abrahim always running and chasing in support; Cosmo’s first touches; and Sam A at full forward. A special cameo performance by James B gave all momentary hope of a Lazarus like revival.
We play with renewed enthusiasm and hope for next week. Come back Alex...And Django let us know what you are doing, please!!
