Round 10 Match Report

Fitzroy 3 . 2 - 20

Beverley Hills 13 . 16 - 94

After a much better effort in the final quarter against Ivanhoe we should have come out firing against Beverley Hills but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.  Last time we played the Hills it was at their home ground and although we lost that game we outscored them in every quarter except the 2nd when we allowed them to hold us scoreless and kick a match-winning bag of goals.  This time around we played them at home and were no match for them.  We won the toss and elected to kick with a classic Ramsden St three-goal wind to the city end of the ground but we squandered the wind advantage in the 1st quarter and allowed Beverley Hills to outscore us even though they were kicking into the wind.  In the 2nd quarter they played on at all costs, kicked long with the wind and piled on the goals holding us scoreless for the quarter.  We never got back in the game and they outplayed us across the entire ground.  Our three Yarra Interleague 1s players had all given everything the day before to win the U/14 Metro Championship Grand Final. Hugh played our game with a temperature and Sean could hardly walk by 3rd quarter time.  Not enough of our blokes were desperate for the footy and too often we were second to the contest or one out against 2 or even 3 opposition players.  We did not play our best footy and all need to take a break over the school holiday period to come back refreshed ready to do better in the final stages of the season.
