Drills

All coaches are looking for more drills. It might be something new to brighten up the training routine, or a method of making sure older kids understand your sophisticated new kick-in routine. Whatever the need, we’re all trying to find another drill to help our kids improve. Links below will open up some resources provided by some of the big footy organisations. There are also links to hand-drawn sketches that coaches learnt as kids in under 10s. They all have their uses – maybe there’s one here that’s just what you’re looking for.

AFL  – The AFL website links to this page with heaps of info and drills for Junior, Youth and Senior       coaching. Specialist drills for skills, team tactics and lots more.

AFL Victoria (Formerly Football Victoria) – links to resources (eg DVDs of drills) as well as”Drill of the Month”. Also information on the Association of Football Coaches Australia (AFCA) membership and courses.

CoachAFL – a private, WA based research organisation serving the football industry. Their website has a page of Drills and Articles with lots of well-explained information with good diagrams.

Swoopercoach – John “Swooper” Northey’s site with lots of drills (many presented as animated Powerpoint files) and other information for coaches.

Auskick – The Auskick website has lots of skill drills for young players, as well as simple skill games.

AFLNSW/ACT – The AFL NSW / ACT website has plenty of drills for basic skills and also game-based drills, all in PDF format.

AFL Buckley Kicking Test - Nathan Buckley’s Kicking Test Drill – terrific for training kids to execute their skills under pressure.

AFL Sydney West Juniors – AFL Sydney West Juniors coaching webpage – links to drills, including Game Sense games, as well as other coaching resources.
